Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano Previews Rutgers Vs Maryland

Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano hosted his weekly press conference on Tuesday to preview Rutgers vs Maryland.

One of the first things that Schiano highlighted in this press conference was the talented quarterback the Terrapins have in Malik Washington. Washington was recruited out of high school by the Scarlet Knights before he ultimately landed at Maryland. The freshman has thrown for 1,958 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 5 picks so far this season. Schiano said that he was the complete package, which is why they recruited him out of high school.

Later on, Schiano also talked about the challenge the Maryland secondary will pose to the Scarlet Knights. The Terrapins’ secondary leads the nation in pick-sixes and has 15 interceptions in 8 games.

One question that Schiano was asked had to do with the offensive tackle situation and how he believes Moshood Giwa and Tyler Needham performed in their new roles. He said it was not ideal having to move Needham to right tackle to replace Taj White, but that he believes Giwa performed well for his first start at the Big Ten level, especially when considering he was playing at LIU less than a year ago.

One of the questions that Schiano was asked regarded former Knight’s running back Kyle Monagai and his breakout performance for the Bears on Sunday.

“I was not shocked one bit. As I have said to everybody when he was coming out, and some listened and some didn’t, the way he ran in the Big Ten is exactly how he will run in the National Football League. Having coached in the National Football League, I know what works in that league at running back, and he’s what works.

One of the last questions had to do with the plays that Defensive Lineman Farell Gnago has been making over the past few weeks. Schiano praised how good he has been for only being a freshman, and he stated how excited he was for what Gnago could become after a full off-season in their program.
