SEC can’t punish schools for pro players, reports say

Let the college football drama continue.

An On3 report from earlier in the weekend has said that the SEC can’t punish players for returning to college football after failing to make an NFL roster.

LSU has been the main focus of this saga as they expect former Ole Miss players DaeQuan Wright and Xzavian Harris to join the roster. Also, former Tiger Jack Pyburn was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this morning and will look to join the Bayou Bengals if he is able to clear waivers.

This stems from the new 5 for 5 ruling that allows players to exhaust up to five years of eligibility while in college. Since the rule was created after these players had already declared for the NFL Draft, they are now fighting for their opportunity to have one more year in college.

While this feels like a new normal, this new rule will likely only create issues for this season and players coming into their fourth year now know that they can stay for five if they wish.

LSU has until Friday to determine if these three players will join their roster for the 2026 season.
