Seven of the top 10 QBs in the 2028 class have committed. Here's where they're going

Quarterback is always a position of need whether it be from a national championship contender to a program in the midst of a rebuild.
At the high school football level, there's no position group that steals the headlines more than quarterbacks. Landing an elite high school prospect at the position could be the difference in that class finishing as one of the best nationally or one that falls behind.
And this is all before that prospect even takes one college snap.
Recent trends in recruiting have also seen the top quarterback prospects in each cycle come off the board much earlier than in years past. The 2028 class is a prime example of that as seven of the top 10 quarterbacks in the cycle, according to 247Sports, have already announced their college decisions.
Here's a look at those seven pledges, where they committed to and how they each fared during their sophomore seasons.
Jayden Wade – IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)
College Commitment: Georgia
247Sports Ranking: No. 2 overall, No. 1 QB
Breakdown: No player on this list has been committed to their future college longer than the No. 1 quarterback in the class. Wade announced his commitment to Georgia on November 16, 2025. During his sophomore season, he led the Ascenders to an unbeaten record, completing 61% of his passes for 1,383 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Christopher Vargas – St. John's Preps (Danvers, MA)
College Commitment: Ohio State
247Sports Ranking: No. 4 overall, No. 2 QB
Breakdown: Vargas gave Ohio State its quarterback of the future with his commitment to the Buckeyes on August 8. After throwing for 1,311 yards and 17 touchdowns as a freshman, he led St. John's Prep to the Massachusetts Division 1 Super Bowl and a 9-1 record, completing 75% of his passes for 1,857 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Donald Tabron II – Cass Technical (Detroit, MI)
College Commitment: Texas A&M
247Sports Ranking: No. 49 overall, No. 3 QB
Breakdown: In two seasons as a starter, Tabron has led the Technicians to a state championship and then back to the state championship last season. He committed to Texas A&M on August 15 and will go into his junior campaign following a sophomore season that saw him throw for 2,819 yards and 35 touchdowns.
Kingston Preyear – Benjamin Russell (Alexander City, AL)
College Commitment: Alabama
247Sports Ranking: No. 72 overall, No. 5 QB
Breakdown: Preyear opted to stay in his home state with his commitment to Alabama on July 10. He transferred to Benjamin Russell ahead of his sophomore season and would lead the Wildcats to a 12-2 record, completing 62% of his passes for 3,026 yards and 34 touchdowns.
Neimann Lawrence – American Heritage (Plantation, FL)
College Commitment: Texas
247Sports Ranking: No. 79 overall, No. 7 QB
Breakdown: This has been a big year for Lawrence as he transferred to American Heritage from Miami Northwestern and also announced his commitment to Texas on June 25. Last season, he led the Bulls to a 13-1 record and state championship appearance, passing for 1,971 yards and 31 touchdowns with only one interception.
Lukas Prock – Hun School (Princeton, NJ)
College Commitment: Indiana
247Sports Ranking: No. 104 overall, No. 8 QB
Breakdown: Prock became Indiana's highest quarterback commitment in years with his pledge on July 23. Against a national schedule last season, he shined leading The Hun School to an 8-4 record, passing for 4,330 yards and 41 touchdowns while only throwing seven interceptions.
Kaden Craft – Lake Norman (Mooresville, NC)
College Commitment: Tennessee
247Sports Ranking: No. 131 overall, No. 9 QB
Breakdown: The latest top 10 quarterback off of the board, Craft announced his commitment to the Volunteers on August 17th. Last season he threw for 1,739 yards and 17 touchdowns while also rushing for nearly 400 yards and scoring 13 times on the ground.
