Should we be worried about LSU’s passing game?

With the LSU Tigers ultimately falling short of their comeback attempt with a 32-24 loss to Ole Miss, they showed impressive resilience after trailing 24-7 at halftime. LSU scored 17 unanswered points to tie the game, but the Rebels wanted it more and came out with the emotional win.

Still, Leavitt’s performance through the air leaves reason to wonder whether LSU can consistently win against the best teams remaining on the schedule without getting more from its passing game

Leavitt was able to make plays with his legs, including a rushing touchdown and 63 yards on the ground, but LSU’s offense struggled to consistently create through the air. He finished with 158 passing yards, one passing touchdown and an interception.

That doesn’t mean LSU suddenly has a quarterback problem at all. Leavitt entered the Ole Miss game coming off a week where he dealt with shoulder soreness on his throwing arm after the Louisiana Tech game.

But the Ole Miss game provided LSU with its first real test against a ranked SEC opponent, and the passing game wasn’t consistently reliable enough.

Now, LSU gets another opportunity to answer those questions when Texas A&M comes to Tiger Stadium this Saturday.

Maybe this was simply just a difficult road game against a program that the’ve had immense tension with all summer. Or maybe LSU’s passing attack needs to take another step for the Tigers to reach their potential.

Either way, it’s something worth watching.
