Snoop Dogg says recreating late mother and brother for biopic has been ‘emotional’

The rapper says revisiting moments with Beverly Tate and Bing Worthington through his upcoming film has given him an emotional lift.
Snoop Dogg says working on his upcoming biopic has become emotional because the film recreates moments with his late mother, Beverly Tate, and younger brother, Bing Worthington.
People reported that Snoop discussed the project during a surprise FaceTime appearance in an interview with Chaka Khan.
Snoop explained, “I get to bring my mother back to life. I get to bring my brother back to life. That’s what I’m getting, that emotional uplift of bringing them back to life again.”
Tate passed away in 2021. Worthington, who worked closely with Snoop’s business and music ventures, died in 2024 at 44. Snoop publicly mourned both losses, including sharing a tribute to his brother that referenced Worthington being reunited with their mother.
The rapper also honored both his mother and brother while accepting his BET Ultimate Icon award in 2025.
The film, titled “Snoop,” is being developed by Universal Pictures and is scheduled for theatrical release on Aug. 6, 2027. Craig Brewer is directing from his rewrite of an original screenplay by “Black Panther” co-writer Joe Robert Cole.
“Outer Banks” actor Jonathan Daviss will portray Snoop. Lauren London has been cast as Tate, while the role of Worthington has not yet been announced.
The project has continued adding major figures from Snoop’s life and career. Recent casting includes Swayvo Twain as The Notorious B.I.G., Tre Hale as Suge Knight, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, and Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre.
Snoop is also producing the film alongside Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. Universal has described it as the definitive biopic of the rapper, entrepreneur and hip-hop icon, with music from his catalog incorporated into the story.
