Snoop Dogg to host the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards

Snoop Dogg has another career move to add to his creative resume. The 54-year-old will host the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards as the ceremony returns to the West Coast for the first time since 2017. This year’s event is produced by Gunpowder & Sky, with Van Toffler serving as producer.
“MTV and the VMAs have been part of my story since the beginning,” detailed the veteran rapper in a statement.
He continued, “Some of the biggest moments of my career happened on that stage and on MTV – they gave hip hop a place to be loud, fearless and seen by the whole world. So to come back now and host the VMAs, all these years later, that’s a full-circle moment for me.”
The Long Beach, Calif. native also shouted out his “brother” Toffler, recalling their work to bring hip hop into the mainstream.
“Van was there during those early MTV days when we were changing the culture in real time, and we’ve got a whole lot of history together. Now we get to make some new history. The VMAs have always been about those moments you don’t forget – and trust me, we’re gonna give y’all a few more. See you at the VMAs.”
The ‘Doggystyle’ performer, who made his VMA debut in 1994, is a 13-time nominee, having won three awards in his music career. On the main stage moments include a first-of-its-kind metaverse-inspired performance with Eminem in 2022, as well as a tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. in 2005, and closing the show with Dr. Dre and Eminem in 1999.
The 2026 VMAs will air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. ET on the CBS Television Network, simulcast on MTV and streaming on Paramount+ (Premium) in the U.S. The show will also be available globally the next day on Paramount+ and MTV. This year’s top nominees include Madonna and Taylor Swift, with Nirvana set to receive the Video Vanguard Award.
