Garrett Riley is back on a college football staff, and this time the move sends him into the heart of the SEC. After being dismissed at Clemson following the 2024 season, Riley has landed at Missouri as an offensive assistant, giving him a quick path back into a major conference.
Riley’s departure from Clemson came shortly after a frustrating finish to the year. The Tigers closed the season with a loss to Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl, a game where the offense struggled to find any rhythm. Clemson finished the year 7–6, and the lack of consistency on that side of the ball ultimately led to changes within the program.
Hired with high expectations after his success at TCU and an award-winning 2022 season, Riley never fully found the results Clemson hoped for. The Tigers ranked in the middle of the ACC in yardage and near the bottom half of the league in scoring during his final year. Clemson has since turned back to a familiar face to reset the offense, while Riley looks to rebuild his reputation in a new role.

Garrett Riley worked as Eli Drinkwitz’ running backs coach at App State. Also worked at SMU and other Power Four stops as a QB coach and OC.
Now reunited with Drink at #Mizzou. Could bring over some Clemson transfers. https://t.co/WPbIt0iDYb

Looks like Mizzou will bring in former Clemson and TCU OC Garrett Riley as an offensive assistant 🔥
The Texas native is USC's Lincoln Riley's younger brother, and in 2022 was awarded the Broyles Award, given to the top assistant coach in the country 👀
