South Carolina Eyes Revenge After Texas A&M’s 27-Point Stunner

The South Carolina-Texas A&M rematch won’t need manufactured drama. Shane Beamer’s team already has enough anger, embarrassment and unfinished business left over from one of the ugliest collapses of the 2025 college football season.

South Carolina walked into halftime at Kyle Field holding a 27-point advantage and seemingly cruising toward a defining SEC road victory. Then the entire afternoon flipped.

Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed recovered from a disastrous start that included two interceptions and a lost fumble.

Instead of folding, Reed torched the Gamecocks for a career-high 439 passing yards and three touchdowns while leading the largest comeback victory in Aggies history.

That kind of loss doesn’t disappear when the calendar changes.

It hangs around the facility. It becomes offseason fuel. It plays on repeat in film rooms, weight rooms and coaches’ offices.

For Beamer, the Texas A&M collapse was also part of a much bigger problem. South Carolina finished 8-4, but the Gamecocks repeatedly came within reach of the type of victory that could’ve transformed their season.

Alabama escaped Williams-Brice Stadium after South Carolina carried a lead into the fourth quarter.

Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson eventually took control, erasing another potential signature moment for Beamer’s program.

Close losses can make a team look dangerous. Too many of them make it look unreliable.

That’s the label South Carolina must eliminate in 2026.

The good news is that LaNorris Sellers returns for his third season as the Gamecocks’ starting quarterback.

His combination of size, arm strength and mobility gives South Carolina the kind of dual-threat weapon capable of breaking down even the SEC’s most talented defenses.

Texas A&M can’t afford to lose discipline when Sellers escapes the pocket. One broken contain assignment could turn into a devastating scramble, an explosive throw or a momentum-changing touchdown.

South Carolina also brings back Dylan Stewart, one of the most feared young edge rushers in college football.

Stewart has the talent to wreck an offensive game plan and could play himself into the early rounds of the 2027 NFL Draft.

That means Reed won’t simply be preparing for a revenge game. He’ll be preparing for a pass rusher who can change it by himself.

Before the teams meet on the field, Texas A&M will step into the spotlight at SEC Media Days in Tampa. Mike Elko will appear on Wednesday alongside Reed, defensive back Marcus Ratcliffe and linebacker Daymion Sanford.

Reed will undoubtedly face questions about expectations, leadership and last season’s historic comeback.

South Carolina would probably prefer he remembers every detail. The Gamecocks certainly do.
