The Spartans continue to do their due diligence when it comes to recruiting the 2027 class.

College football never sleeps, and that’s exactly why so many people become enamored with it. College sports, in general, have become a hot debate when it comes to loyalty from recruits coming in, but regardless of where you stand or how your team goes about things, recruiting remains one of the biggest parts of college athletics.

Head coach Pat Fitzgerald and his staff understand what it means to build a program, and they continue building Michigan State from the ground up.

As the Spartans work toward what they hope will be an incredible 2026 season, preparing the roster for 2027 and beyond also remains a critical day-to-day task.

Over the weekend, Michigan State extended an offer to 3-star wide receiver Maliek Brown.

Brown is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound pass-catching standout from Texas who plays at Chapel Hill High School in Tyler, Texas.

Currently, 247Sports grades Brown as an 87 overall recruit, placing him on the higher end of the 3-star rankings. Per 247Sports, Brown ranks as the No. 116 wide receiver in the 2027 class and the No. 118 overall prospect coming out of Texas.

The 247Sports Composite score closely mirrors that evaluation, coming in at 0.8700. That composite ranking places Brown at No. 829 nationally in the 2027 class, the No. 103 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 109 prospect in Texas.

In a sit-down with Corey Robinson of 247Sports’ Michigan State recruiting coverage, Brown spoke highly about the Spartans and the attention they’ve shown throughout the process.

“The offer from Michigan State University means something to me because they’ve showed nonstop love and support to me and my family and make us feel at home,” Brown said.

Michigan State joins a growing list of programs that have extended offers to Brown. That list includes Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Kansas State, TCU, Texas Tech, and several others.

Per 247Sports, Brown is currently listed as “warm” on Louisiana Tech, though it remains very early in the recruiting process.

Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins continues to stay heavily involved in Brown’s recruitment, helping lay the foundation for what could potentially be a future in East Lansing.

Hawkins has long been respected for helping develop young football players into men. Before joining Michigan State’s staff in 2020 as wide receivers coach, Hawkins spent more than 20 years as one of the top high school coaches in the state of Michigan.

Brown’s athleticism extends far beyond the football field. While his speed is evident every Friday night, he has also showcased impressive burst and explosiveness in track and field competition.

Brown ran 400-meter times of 48.31 and 48.41 to place second at the Texas 4A Region II meet as a junior. He also posted 200-meter times of 22.27 and 22.38 during the Spring 2026 season, according to MileSplit.

In addition, Brown was a member of Chapel Hill’s Texas 4A regional qualifying 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams as a sophomore in Spring 2025. As a freshman, he also competed on Chapel Hill’s regional-qualifying 4×400 relay unit.

On the football field, Brown continued to showcase his all-around ability during the 2025 season. He finished his junior campaign with 43 receptions for 768 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 17.9 yards per catch. Brown also added four rushing attempts for 34 yards, contributed in the return game, and saw limited snaps defensively.

As a sophomore, Brown hauled in 21 receptions for 400 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 19.0 yards per catch.

The Spartans continue putting their hat in many recruiting rings as they work to shape the future of the roster. While there is still plenty of time left in Brown’s recruitment, Michigan State has officially entered the mix for one of Texas’ rising playmakers in the 2027 class.
