Stephen A. Smith Wants To Get Involved With ESPN's 'College GameDay'

Stephen A. Smith has become more involved with ESPN’s live events programming in recent years.

The “First Take” star has been on sight for prominent NBA games, including The Finals, and he’s done some “Monday Night Countdown” work for NFL games, as well. Could we see him venture into the college football world?

Smith is open to it.

The ESPN star is getting more interested in college football, as the Worldwide Leader in Sports looks to cover the sport with more force this year, and he’s specifically interested in taking part in one of Pat McAfee’s iconic “College GameDay” segments.

After a College GameDay promo aired on First Take Tuesday morning, the ESPN star made it clear that he would like to get involved with McAfee.

“There is very little in television that’s funnier than that damn Pat McAfee field goal contest,” Smith said. “It’s hilarious. I don’t know where he finds these; these people can’t kick at all.”

He’d like to play a role.

“I might catch a cramp,” Smith said. “Don’t give Pat McAfee and them any ideas cause they’ll actually ask me to go out there and try to kick, and I’ll really embarrass myself. You think those kids are bad? Could you imagine me trying to kick a field goal? That would be a bad sight to see. It would be worse than the first pitch.”

ESPN’s “College GameDay” could head to USC for the Trojans’ game with Ohio State later this fall. One of Smith’s daughters is a student at USC.

Smith has made it clear that he would like to travel to Los Angeles and take part in the show, perhaps even participating in the kicking contest.

Do college football fans want to see Smith on “College GameDay” this fall?
