Steve Sarkisian sends strong message on Ryan Day, Ohio State before Texas clash

Steve Sarkisian acknowledged the success that Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes have achieved over the years ahead of the Texas Longhorns’ Week 2 clash this weekend.

Ranked No. 4 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, Texas is due for its biggest matchup of the regular season. They take on Buckeyes squad that has garnered serious attention as a contender for the national championship. Having lost to them in last year’s clash, payback is in order for Texas to obtain this time around.

Sarkisian spoke with media ahead of the blockbuster matchup, the most popular one on the Week 2 schedule. The Longhorns coach noted Day’s success at Ohio State, which included a national championship title in the 2024-25 season.

“Well, I know this much. What Ryan Day has done and what Ohio State has done for decades, I don’t care what conference they’re in, they’d be good in any conference. So it’s hard for me to evaluate the totality of the conferences. I know having played these guys over the years — we played them for a national title at Bama in 2020, now this is our third time playing them (at Texas) in 16 months. They’ve got great talent. They’ve got great schemes. They’ve got really good coaches. They’re used to being in this arena, too,” Day said, per reporter Chase Brown.

“Playing these guys, you have to play a complete game. It’s not about one side of the ball or the other or just special teams. You better be ready to play. You better be ready to execute at the highest level at the most critical moments of the ball game.”

Steve Sarkisian and the No. 4 Texas Longhorns will be busy trying to have the edge over the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes in this upcoming clash.

Texas has a case to make as a team that can make an appearance in the College Football Playoffs and attempt a deep tournament run. However, they can only prove that if they secure win over Ohio State, showing their quality as an elite squad and a possible contender for the national championship.

The No. 4 Longhorns gear up for their clash against the No. 1 Buckeyes in Week 2. That matchup commences on Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
