The Syracuse Orange football team pushed its record to 2-2 on the season with 42-41 overtime victory on Saturday afternoon against the UConn Huskies.

Quarterback Amari Odom's first start in a Syracuse uniform was one of the highlights of the team's victory, as he threw for more than 300 yards and accounted for six total touchdowns. He also scored the game-winning two-point conversion in overtime.

Odom and his teammates will now shift their focus to Saturday's ACC matchup against the Virginia Cavaliers. Despite recent changes to the offense, Syracuse is still the underdog.

Here's more of what you need to know:

How did Virginia football perform this weekend?

The Cavaliers were destroyed by the Florida State Seminoles 38-7 over the weekend. Florida State head coach Mike Norvell had been rumored to be one of the most likely head coaches to be fired during the season. And while nothing definitively has been decided, a 30-point victory can only help.

The Cavaliers are now 3-2, though they are only 1-1 inside the league.

What's the opening line for Syracuse vs. UVA?

Syracuse will enter Saturday's game as an underdog. According to DraftKings, Syracuse is a 9.5-point underdog. That line could move before kick off on Saturday.

Does the line make sense?

Yes. Virginia was better in 2025 than Syracuse. The Cavaliers were just one win away from representing the ACC in the College Football Playoff. UConn may finish with an above .500 record but the Huskies are not perceived to be better than Virginia, so that win shouldn't give immense confidence that Syracuse can beat the Cavaliers.

Odom's presence under center could elevate the offense and give Syracuse a better chance to compete with the top of the league, but it's still fair to see them as a near 10-point underdog.

Other things to think about for SU

Umari Hatcher had 12 catches and three touchdowns in the win on Saturday, but if the Orange are going to compete with the top teams in the league they'll have to find additional weapons on the outside.

Star freshman Calvin Russell III, who was making his debut after tearing his Achilles in the spring, had only two catches. As they get him more into the offense, look for him to generate more targets.

Perhaps that will come as early as this weekend. He's one of the highest-rated recruits in school history.
