The Tennessee football team hopes for a strong 2026 season, with a trip to the College Football Playoff. Tennessee has a key non conference game on Saturday against Georgia Tech. The Volunteers will see the return of a key defensive player.
“Tennessee (linebacker) Arion Carter makes his return today against Georgia Tech after serving a 1-game suspension,” On3’s Pete Nakos reported on X, formerly Twitter. “NCAA suspended Carter for accepting a $427 flight from an agent after he declared for the NFL Draft, which Carter repaid. Tennessee LB has 13.5 career TFLs.”
Carter is now in his fourth season at Tennessee. He is certainly an anchor of the Volunteers defense. He has posted 161 total tackles in his college career. Carter also has one forced fumble and one interception.

“Great communicator, great leader and a really good football player too. So to have him back in the middle, controlling everything, everybody’s extremely excited,” Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said about Carter, per 247 Sports.
Heupel thinks that Carter allows Tennessee to experiment with some different defensive schemes.
“Yeah, the ability to rotate and play more of those guys, keep them fresh,” Heupel added.
Carter isn’t the only player returning from suspension for Tennessee.
“Sam Pendleton is expected to start at center after serving a suspension last week. Defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell is expected to go on Saturday for the Vols,” On3 reported.
Tennessee is currently 1-0 on the season, after defeating Furman. The Volunteers play a hungry Georgia Tech team, who lost their opener to Colorado. Georgia Tech gave up a lead in the final few minutes of that game, before having a field goal blocked as time expired.
Tennessee and Georgia Tech play Saturday night at 7:00 ET.
