Tennessee's all-time football game results at Nissan Stadium

No. 23 Tennessee (8-4, 4-4 SEC) will conclude its 2025 football season in the Liberty Mutual Music City Bowl. The Vols will face Illinois (8-4, 5-4 Big Ten) on Dec. 30.

Kickoff between the Vols and Fighting Illini is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. ESPN will televise the first meeting between the two schools all time.

The game will mark Tennessee’s fourth appearance in the Music City Bowl and the ninth time the Vols will play at Nissan Stadium since the home of the NFL’s Titans opened in 1999. Tennessee is 6-2 in its previous games contested at Nissan Stadium and 1-2 in postseason games at the venue.

The Vols last played at Nissan Stadium on Sept. 2, 2023. Tennessee opened its season with a, 48-13, victory over Virginia. Tennessee first played at Nissan Stadium on Nov. 25, 2000. The Vols defeated Vanderbilt, 28-26.

Tennessee shut out Vanderbilt, 24-0, at Nissan Stadium on Nov. 23, 2002. The Vols also opened their 2002 campaign with a, 47-7, victory over Wyoming.

Tennessee also opened its 2015 season at Nissan Stadium, defeating Bowling Green, 59-30.

Tennessee made its first Music City Bowl appearance on Dec. 30, 2010 under first-year head coach Derek Dooley. The Vols lost to North Carolina, 30-27, in double overtime.

On Dec. 30, 2021, the Vols also ended their season in the Music City Bowl, losing to Purdue, 48-45, in overtime. Tennessee earned its only victory in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30, 2016, defeating Nebraska, 38-24.
