Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Terry Bussey was carted off the field during Saturday's SEC matchup vs. Kentucky. He landed awkwardly on his leg during the opening kickoff and was unable to make it to the sidelines.
Bussey took the opening kickoff and fumbled on the play. After review, Texas A&M retained possession and was ruled down. This is a huge blow for one of the Aggies best receivers. He entered the game with seven receptions for 92 yards, which ranks second on the roster only behind Isaiah Horton. His role has increased lately with both the kickoff and punt return duties.
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko will turn to Ashton Bethel-Roman and Mario Carver as the primary returners on special teams.
Bussey, a former five-star two-way athlete from Timpson (Texas) chose the Aggies over several Power Four offers two years ago. He has played both seasons while at Texas A&M and was expected to be an impact player for Elko this year. The valuable all-purpose talent has 63 touches for 616 yards and four touchdowns in 26 career games.
No update on Bussey's injury status was provided during the first quarter of Saturday's game. He's unlikely to return, according to the ESPN broadcast.
