Texas A&M's 2026 roster underwent a significant makeover this offseason, as third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff added 17 transfer portal additions, combined with the 2026 signing class, while 65% of the 2025 roster made its way back to College Station, led by redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed.
Before a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, Elko's emphasis on building a deep defensive line and secondary never wavered, needing to return a bulk of his 2025 defensive standouts, which include star safeties Dalton Brooks and Marcus Ratcliffe, cornerbacks Dezz Ricks and Julio Humphrey, and defensive linemen DJ Hicks and T.J. Searcy, who are all considered 2026 starters.
Mike Elko's offseason premonition that "10 to 12" players would be selected obviously came true, including four starting offensive linemen, which Elko prepared for by landing four SEC starting O-linemen from the transfer portal months before the draft.
Needing to replace star wide receiver KC Concepcion, who was picked 24th overall by the Cleveland Browns, Elko and new OC Holmon Wiggins landed 6'4" Alabama transfer WR Isaiah Horton, who brings critical size to the Aggies' already established wide receiver room, led by junior Mario Craver, while A&M's running back room is much deeper than many of us anticipated.
Texas A&M's future rosters, which will include the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, will be rich with NFL-level talent, placing more pressure on Mike Elko to lead the program to its first national title since 1939. This season, 247Sports' Chris Hummer released his Team Talent Composite rankings, placing Texas A&M's 2026 roster at No. 7. Here is how Hummer compiled these rankings:
"Each of those teams featured at least one former five-star recruit and had an average player rating — using their high school recruiting rank — of at least 89, which equates to a high-level three-star. Even if you include Indiana in the data, the average national champion since 2015 had an average player rating of 91.5."
