Texas football looks bound to become threatened at the top of the college football world soon. The Longhorns face a fierce SEC gauntlet that’ll surely test their No. 1 ranking. But head coach Steve Sarkisian isn’t ducking, even with Oklahoma on deck.

Texas hits the road in five of its next six games. And five outside of the rival Sooners are against ranked foes; with Ole Miss and LSU representing top 10 opponents the ‘Horns will face.

But Sark raved about the confidence level of his group.

“I don’t know if our guys would want it any other way. They love these games,” Sarkisian said via On3 Texas reporter Tyler Horka.

So Texas will enter each game embracing this upcoming storm gauntlet. Which can also deliver two major statements down the road.

For starters, each victory can solidify a spot in the SEC title game come September. Lastly, Texas winning out will do more than earn the Longhorns the conference title, but the likely top seed in the College Football Playoffs.

Although Texas tripping up once could still get them into both the SEC Championship contest and the CFP. Especially after taking down previous No. 1 Ohio State to shoot up in the top 25. But still, the more Texas wins, the increased likelihood of the Longhorns making their way back into the CFP.

Texas appeared in the first expanded 12-team postseason back in the 2024 campaign. But fell to eventual national champion Ohio State during a time wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was a true freshman.
