Texas Longhorns offer rising ACC LB commit

Texas is still without a linebacker prospect in its 2027 recruiting class. On Monday, the Longhorns dished out an offer to a new target that’s currently committed elsewhere.

Prattville (Ala.) three-star LB Jason Crenshaw plays for one of the top high school football programs in Alabama. Back in June, amidst official visit season, he made a commitment to Brent Key and Georgia Tech.

That pledge to the Yellow Jackets has held strong since, but Crenshaw has landed an intriguing offer from Texas. It’s Crenshaw’s first announced offer since he pledged to Georgia Tech over three months ago.

Crenshaw is the No. 890 overall prospect and No. 73 LB in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 38 senior in Alabama.

Through the first five games of his senior season, Crenshaw has 25 total tackles, four sacks and a caused fumble, per MaxPreps. Prattville is off to a 5-0 start and ranks as a top-five team in the state, per the Rivals Composite Rankings.

Crenshaw chose Georgia Tech over Kentucky and North Carolina, among others. Rivals’ Chad Simmons reported earlier this month that the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder was expected back on The Flats to take in a Jackets game. It remains to be seen if the Texas offer will shake things up.

Texas eyeing another top-five class

As of Sept. 21, head coach Steve Sarkisian and the staff in Austin hold 22 commitments this cycle. Their class currently sits at No. 6 in the nation, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. That’s good for No. 2 in the SEC.

The Longhorns have been at the center of some of the biggest flip rumors of the entire cycle. They’ve held on to a commitment from New Orleans Brother Martin Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Easton Royal since last November and he remains pledged despite fervent pushes from LSU and Florida.

Royal headlines the class alongside Gilmer (Texas) five-star interior offensive lineman Ismael Camara and Richmond (Texas) Randle four-star running back Landen Williams-Callis. Both are the No. 3 prospect at their respective position.

There’s a Yellowhammer flavor to the class, too. Mobile (Ala.) Vigor four-star EDGE JaBarrius Garror and Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson four-star safety Junior Tu’upo are among the 14 blue-chip pledges in the class. They are the No. 3 and 12 players in the state this cycle.
