AUSTIN, Texas — The medical staff for the Texas Longhorns continue to evaluate the knee injury sustained by sophomore tight end Nick Townsend in Saturday’s win over the Ohio State Buckeyes, head coach Steve Sarkisian said on Monday.

“We’re going to continue to evaluate him to see when we can get him back. How long that will be, I don’t know,” Sarkisian said.

The 6’3, 250-pounder sustained the injury on the punt coverage unit in the third quarter when he was pushed in the back by an Ohio State player as he was trying to make the tackle, immediately grabbing his right knee after hitting the turf. After the injury, Townsend went into the locker room and did not return.

Before leaving the game, Townsend played 22 snaps on offense and three snaps on special teams. He did not receive a target in the passing game, but fellow sophomore tight end Emaree Winston had a significant impact in the second half, recording three receptions for 38 yards, including a big conversion on a 4th and 9 late in the third quarter, but also dropped two passes.

Sarkisian also revealed that sophomore defensive lineman Justus Terry did not play against the Buckeyes because he suffered a foot injury during pregame warmups.

“Just didn’t feel like he could push off the way that that he is capable of, and that hurt because we had a plan for him in this game — we were counting on him, and in football, sometimes that happens and you just deal with it,” Sarkisian said. “Hopefully, we get him back sooner rather than later because he is performing at a high level. We definitely need to get him back going.”
