UNC, Bill Belichick Receive Intriguing Outlook Before Clemson Matchup

Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels are heading into this week's game against the Clemson Tigers with a 2-0 record. Through two weeks, things have looked much-improved from last season.

Off of the field, an investigation has been looking into multiple issues within the North Carolina football program. Despite the noise, Belichick has remained focused on helping lead the program back to winning.

Usually, a Tar Heels matchup against a team like Clemson would bring bad expectations. It has been awhile since North Carolina was viewed as a legitiamte contender against Dabo Swinney's team. That has changed heading into this week's September 19 showdown.

ESPN has weighed in with their current prediction for the game. They believe that the Tar Heels are indeed the underdogs, but not by as much as many would expect.

Currently, the matchup predictor is giving North Carolina a 46.7 percent chance of knocking off the Tigers.

Beating teams like TCU and East Tennessee State is expected. If the Tar Heels can pull off an upset over Clemson on the road, Belichick would put them back on the college football map.

Swinney and the Tigers have looked rough to kick off the 2026 college football season. They were blown out in the season opener by LSU and struggled to defeat Georgia Southern convincingly last week.

At the end of the day, this year's Clemson team is nothing like the teams of the recent past. Swinney's job security has started being called into question. North Carolina can make those rumblings even louder with a win.

On the other side of the field, Belichick's name has also been placed on the hot seat. The Tar Heels looked horrible last season in his first year as head coach. Another bad season could cost Belichick his job.

That being said, the season has gotten off to a good start. A win over the Tigers would help Belichick's case to remain as the head coach at North Carolina even more.

Only time will tell whether or not the Tar Heels can pull off the upset on Saturday. Fans will be able to tune in to watch the game at 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. It will be interesting to see if the Tar Heels are able to move to 3-0 with a massive win over the Tigers.
