Recruiting momentum continues to build for the Texas Longhorns with the addition of receiver Kyron Brown to the 2027 class on Tuesday, the second commitment of the day for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff, joining Wellington (Fla.) Palm Beach Central defensive tackle Tyler Alexander.
The consensus three-star receiver from Amarillo Palo Duro saw his recruitment heat up during his junior year, reporting 24 offers, with 13 Power Four schools and four SEC schools vying for his services. He seemingly narrowed the field down to four schools, taking visits with the Kansas State Wildcats, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Baylor Bears, and the Longhorns.
Texas entered his recruitment late, only offering in early June, but they made up ground quickly and closed it out in less than a month.
The 6’0, 185-pound pass catcher is a two-sport athlete for the Dons, putting up state-qualifying times in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles as a sophomore. His junior football season showcased his big-play ability, putting up 637 yards and seven touchdowns on just 37 receptions, averaging 17.22 yards per catch.
Brown is now the third wide receiver for Chris Jackson’s 2027 haul, joining consensus five-star Easton Royal and four-star Briceson Thrower Jr. Now with 18 pledges, Texas jumped Texas Tech for the No. 6 class overall for the 2027 cycle after sitting well outside the top 10 a week ago.
Film analysis (by Daniel Seahorn):
Brown strikes me as a complementary piece that will fit within a class that already has significant resources earmarked at the position. He possesses solid, but not spectacular size for the position at 6’0, 185 pounds but on film looks a little bigger than that. Profiles with decent athleticism, as he is a two-sport athlete who was a state qualifier on the track in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Posted average production as a junior with 37 catches for 637 yards and seven touchdowns at 17.2 yards a catch. Shows good acceleration and fluid movement in the open field after the catch. Shows solid elusiveness and added a 60-plus yard explosive touchdown run on a reverse. Shows a good catch radius on tape and tracks the ball well in the air. Shows the awareness to sit down in holes in zones and show his numbers to the quarterback. Shows some attitude and willingness as a blocker. Love seeing the aggression and ability to run the arc and get after the quarterback on the defensive side of the ball. That type of attitude and tenacity will serve him well on the offensive side of the ball when he has to get his hands dirty.
