We live in a college football world of lists, rankings, and countdowns. Many players on Notre Dame’s roster have been talked about and written about over the last few months — so let’s fall in line.
This will be my official Top 20 Notre Dame Football Players ranking. I will unveil each player, and list the three things I like about them. It seems simple enough, but I have no doubt that some of these ratings will be highly criticized, but you can always share your thoughts in the comments below.
#22 ANEYAS WILLIAMS RB
Already shown production
We know who Aneyas Williams is. While he hasn’t been a huge part of the Notre Dame offense over the past two seasons, when he has been given the opportunity, he has performed very well. In fact, as a freshman he averaged over 6 yards per carry and as a sophomore he averaged over 9 yards per carry. Like… we never had to worry about some massive fallout when Williams got the ball when Price and Love were done.
Big game bro
It was ONE game that stands out, but what a performance by a freshman that was 3rd string at the time. In the Orange Bowl, Williams was a spark that the Irish absolutely needed in both the rushing and the passing game. He had 2 carries for 17 yards and 5 receptions for 66 yards — in the biggest game of the year to that point and he didn’t wilt under the pressure. It says a lot about him as a competitor.
Throwback
I’ve made a number of comments over the years about Williams not be astetically pleasing compared to Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price. He looks different and yet… his throwback look and running style is something that Notre Dame definitely can use and needs. He wants the ball and will do whatever its takes to gain as much as he can. There’s a certain grace that comes with wildness, and Williams has it.
