LeBron James has seen enough when it comes to the race for the 2027 Heisman Trophy after the Ohio State Buckeyes’ 45-16 win over the Maryland Terrapins.

James was locked in on his hometown Buckeyes playing against the Terrapins in Week 6 of the college football season, and he was left amazed by the performance he saw from WR Jeremiah Smith.

Smith picked up four receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns, with a highlight 40-yard TD as the signature play in a comfortable fifth win of the season for the Buckeyes.

LeBron James thinks Jeremiah Smith should win the 2027 Heisman Trophy

The Heisman Trophy is awarded to the best player in college football at the end of the season, and after the first six weeks, LeBron shared his belief that Smith has already sealed the trophy this season.

“Throw it to 4!! #Heisman.”

Smith has had an electric start to the 2026-27 CFB season, sitting at a total of 48 receptions for 916 yards and 11 touchdowns through six games.

His 152.7-yard-per-game average is incredible, and he currently leads the nation in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He is also one of the most efficient WRs in college football this season, making his case stronger.

The Buckeyes are currently ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll and could see a slight bump after this win over the Terrapins. If the program ends the season with a 10-2 record or better and retains a top-three ranking, it’ll be hard to argue against Smith’s case for the Heisman.

Only four WRs in CFB history have won the award, with DeVonta Smith doing it most recently in 2020. Travis Hunter was a WR/CB, so his contributions as a dual-threat mean Smith can become the fifth true WR to win the award.

Naturally, the trophy leans towards awarding the best QB in the country, with Smith’s biggest rivals for the Heisman being Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss, Alabama QB Keelon Russell, Notre Dame QB CJ Carr, and teammate QB Julian Sayin.
