One of Alabama football’s top safety targets in the 2027 recruiting cycle has reportedly made a decision.

That prospect is Junior Tu’upo, who has reportedly committed to the Texas Longhorns, per Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. The Crimson Tide were previously named as a finalist for Tu’upo alongside Auburn, Indiana, Oregon, and Texas.

An in-state prospect, Tu’upo is currently considered as the nation’s No. 236 overall player in the 2027 class, as well as the No. 19 safety nationally, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Tu’upo, a four-star recruit, is also ranked as the No. 12 player in the state of Alabama out of Thompson High School, the same program as currently Crimson Tide quarterback commit Trent Seaborn.

Following the commitment of Tu’upo to Texas, Alabama’s 2027 class remains with 12 total commitments. None of those 12 commitments are at the safety position.
