Transfer from SEC rival could fill key role for LSU football's offense

LSU football signed several wide receivers from the transfer portal this offseason, completely reshaping the room as head coach Lane Kiffin took over the program. Among the new faces is Florida transfer Eugene Wilson. As the season grows closer, Wilson is a potential breakout.

Wilson spent three years at Florida before transferring to LSU. He joined the Gators as a four-star in 2023, ranking as the No. 106 player in his recruiting class. Wilson caught 61 passes for 544 yards as a true freshman. He was a reliable target, catching 85.9% of his targets.

But then Wilson caught the injury bug. He only played four games in 2024. He was healthier in 2025, playing eight games, but it still wasn't a full season. On top of the injuries, UF's offense was stagnant under head coach Billy Napier. There weren't many big plays to go around — Wilson caught 27 passes and only averaged 9.0 yards per catch in 2025.

Still, the talent is there, and Wilson is an SEC veteran. He made a ton of sense for this LSU offense. Early reports from fall camp have continued to label Wilson as a name to know on this offense. He's getting first-team reps and his experience and versatility make him a valuable piece. Few receivers on LSU's roster have as many SEC reps as Wilson.

Wilson is healthy again and could play a key role in LSU's passing game. LSU added plenty of transfer receivers who averaged 15+ yards a catch at their previous stops. Wilson did most of his damage working underneath, an element LSU's offense will need.

Wilson hasn't generated the same discussion as transfer wideouts Jayce Brown and Winston Watkins, but don't sleep on the Florida transfer entering 2026.
