Michigan has added a quarterback with extensive starting experience in the Mountain West for a second straight offseason.
The Wolverines got a commitment from Colorado State’s Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi on Sunday. Fowler-Nicolosi will have one season of eligibility remaining after spending four seasons at Colorado State.
Fowler-Nicolosi began the 2025 season as Colorado State’s starter for three games before the Rams turned to Jackson Brousseau and Darius Curry for the rest of the season. Fowler-Nicolosi was 44-of-82 passing for 488 yards and a TD and two interceptions.
After appearing in three games in 2022 as a freshman, Fowler-Nicolosi became Colorado State’s starter in 2023. He threw for nearly 3,500 yards as a redshirt freshman with 22 TDs and 16 interceptions.
In 2024, Fowler-Nicolosi was 230-of-380 passing for 2,796 yards and 14 TDs with nine interceptions. Before that season, now-former Colorado State coach Jay Norvell said that Fowler-Nicolosi told him that he was contacted by someone who said they were associated with Kansas State and offered $600,000 for him to transfer.
At Michigan, Fowler-Nicolosi will ostensibly back up Bryce Underwood in coach Kyle Whittingham’s first season in charge. Underwood, a five-star recruit, won the starting job as a true freshman in 2025 and will work with former Utah offensive coordinator Jason Beck as he followed Whittingham from Utah to Ann Arbor.
Whittingham was hired in December to replace the fired Sherrone Moore. The former Michigan coach has a January court date for the felony home invasion charge he's facing for allegedly entering a staffer's residence shortly after Michigan fired him with cause.
Last offseason, Michigan added former Fresno State and UCF QB Mikey Keene to the roster. However, Keene didn’t play for the Wolverines in 2025 and has committed to Arizona State for his final season of eligibility.
