The commitments keep rolling in for the UCLA Bruins, with Bob Chesney’s team landing a commitment from offensive tackle Thurman Lyles III on Monday. The three-star recruit visited the Bruins this past weekend and saw all he needed to go ahead and commit.

Lyles will come to Westwood from Sacramento, where the 6’5” tackle plays at Grant Union High School. UCLA earned the commitment from Lyles over offers from USC, Tennessee and Washington State.

Chesney and the Bruins have attacked the offensive line, with Lyles being the fourth offensive lineman adding to UCLA’s 2027 recruiting class. Lyles is one of the three-star recruits added to the Bruins’ offensive line, with Jackson Roper being the lone four-star recruit in the group.

Lyles is the lightest of the the four incoming Bruin offensive lineman at 265 lbs. Since UCLA joined the Big Ten Conference, the team’s offensive line hasn’t found success, finishing outside of the Top-10 in rushing yards in both 2024 and 2025.

Chesney has brought in some big bodies to try and find a remedy for that issue. The Bruins have rebuilt their offensive line for this season through the transfer portal, but UCLA will hope that some long-term solutions will be joining the team as freshman for the 2027 season.

247 Sports has Lyles as the No. 76 offensive tackle in the class and has Lyles as the No. 74 player from California. 247 Sports composite ranks UCLA’s 2027 class as the No. 9 class in the entire nation, having already landed 21 recruits. Michigan and Oregon are the only two Big Ten Conference teams ranked ahead of UCLA in the 2027 class rankings.
