UCLA football ignited new enthusiasm Saturday for the Bob Chesney era. Fans especially out in Westwood watched the Bruins pummel Cal late 45-24. Now UCLA students are receiving quite the treat ahead of the Rose Bowl opener against San Diego State.
UCLA unveiled this unique special gesture Monday.
“UCLA CEO and Director of Athletics Tim Harris has purchased 300 tickets for Bruin fans to attend Saturday’s home opener versus San Diego State,” the school announced on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Fans became urged to sign up for landing the tickets through the school website. However, there’s a catch involving this new way to gauge interest in the Bruins.
“Fans who are not selected for complimentary tickets will receive information on how to purchase a limited number of tickets at a 50% discount,” the release added.
So this rises as a new way for UCLA to win back fans. Plus increase the enthusiasm levels of this new era of Bruins football led by the former James Madison University coach.
Chesney took over the Big Ten university after leading the Dukes to their historic first College Football Playoff appearance in 2025. JMU secured the Sun Belt Conference title and became the first from the SBC to earn a chance at playing for the national title. But UCLA’s Big Ten rival Oregon ended the Dukes’ season.
Now Chesney is galvanizing both the community and quarterback Nico Iamaleava. The former Tennessee starter went 14-of-22 for 184 yards and tossed one interception. But he added 29 yards rushing and scored once. His Bruins exploded with a 21-0 fourth quarter to steamroll past their former Pac-12 rival.
Now UCLA faces a new Pac-12 representative in the Aztecs with Harris helping fill seats.
