Updated Big 12 recruiting rankings for the Class of 2027

The 2027 recruiting cycle still has a few months to go until the December signing period, but it feels like a majority of the top classes in the nation are set. Just two senior blue-chippers — according to the Rivals Industry Ranking — remain uncommitted, as of Sept. 10.

Things always move quick in the summer during official visit season, but this cycle has moved at a fervent pace since the beginning of the spring. While coaching changes, changes of heart and other factors will lead to some flips down the stretch, for the most part, top recruits look locked into their respective pledges.

Texas Tech has led the charge — and then some — on the Big 12 recruiting front. The Red Raiders have the nation’s No. 9 class, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. They are the only program in the league to hold a top-30 class.

Along with TTU, only four other teams in the Big 12 — Colorado, Kansas State, West Virginia and BYU — have more than two blue-chip commits in their 2027 class. Rivals is taking a look at the updated Big 12 class rankings, now that football is finally back:

1. Texas Tech — 91.407

Top Commit: DL Jalen Brewster, No. 1 NATL. (No. 1 DL)

The Red Raiders have held Brewster’s pledge since last October and they’ve fended off the SEC for a long time. Brewster has now “shut down” his recruitment and remains locked in with Joey McGuire and Co. The No. 1 prospect sits atop the TTU class alongside five-star EDGE Anthony Sweeney. There’s an additional five top-100 recruits headed to Lubbock, including No. 3 LB Jhadyn Nelson, No. 2 ATH Gideon Gash and No. 6 QB Kavian Bryant.

2. Kansas State — 87.744

Collin Klein is back in Manhattan, and as he looks to bring Kansas State back to the top of the Big 12, he’s garnering some momentum on the recruiting trail. The Wildcats have hammered the Lone Star State; Vilmael is one of nine Texans in the class. Four-star ATH Cooper Ohnmacht, the No. 1 player in Kansas, is right behind Vilmael at the top of the class.

3. Colorado — 87.235

This is actually a jam-packed class for Colorado when compared to others during the Deion Sanders era. The Buffaloes have prioritized the high school ranks a bit more this time around and they’ve landed some key targets. Adams headlines as the No. 15 QB and No. 9 senior in Tennessee. Much of CU’s class resides far from Boulder, including four-star IOL Dewey Young, four-star WR Jaiden Kelly-Murray and four-star safety Gabe Jenkins.

4. West Virginia — 87.144

Top Commit: EDGE Chris Wilson, No. 321 NATL. (No. 31 EDGE)

Rich Rodriguez is back in the saddle in Morgantown, and while West Virginia’s 2027 class is outside of the top 40 nationally, it remains near the top of the Big 12. Wilson, the No. 6 senior prospect in Indiana, was one of 11 June commits for the Mountaineers. Four-star IOL Ethan Lawson, the No. 6 senior in Virginia, went viral with his couch-burning commitment this summer. Four-star safety commit Carter Bonner is among the slew of blue-chippers coming out of St. Frances Academy (Md.).

5. Houston — 86.463

Top Commit: DL Raiden Cook, No. 178 NATL. (No. 20 DL)

To no surprise, Willie Fritz and the Houston staff have prioritized top targets in the Lone Star State and Louisiana. All 14 commits hail from either Texas or The Boot, with Cook, the No. 23 prospect in Texas, leading the way. He’s locked in with the Cougars despite a push from Texas Tech. Four-star CB commit Kameron Roberson is the No. 23 prospect at the position. Three-star QB pledge Braden Baker, who pledged in April, is a top-40 passer in the cycle.
