USC announces captains for 2026 football season

USC is officially 1-0! On Saturday, the Trojans opened up their 2026 campaign with a 42-26 victory over San Jose State at the Coliseum.

Ahead of kickoff, USC announced its 2026 team captains. They are quarterback Jayden Maiava, offensive lineman Kilian O’Connor, offensive lineman Tobias Raymond, defensive lineman Alex VanSumeren, and defensive lineman Jide Abasiri.

This marks the first time since 2023 that the Trojans have elected permanent team captains. For the past two years, USC chose captains on a game-by-game basis.

Maiava, O’Connor, and VanSumeren are all redshirt seniors, while Raymond is a redshirt junior and Abasiri is a true junior. VanSumeren transferred to USC from Michigan State this past offseason and Maiava transferred in from UNLV ahead of the 2024 season. O’Connor, Raymond, and Abasiri all signed with the Trojans out of high school.

USC is back in action on Friday when the Trojans host Fresno State at the Coliseum. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. Pacific time on Fox.
