The Oregon Ducks, the USC Trojans‘ biggest rival, should be a foremost Big Ten contender as they have been every year in recent seasons. They are returning a Heisman hopeful at quarterback in Dante Moore and an explosive offense. However, Oregon could cause the Trojans big issues because of how good the Ducks are on the other side of the ball.

In a recent article, Bjorn Bergstrom showcases what the best part of this year’s Oregon Ducks team is:

“Every position group, save for offensive line, is solidified with accomplished talent. But there’s one position group in particular that sticks out to CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford as the most prominent thing to love for the Ducks this fall: the senior talent along the defensive line.

“Returning quarterback Dante Moore, speedsters at wide receiver and a talented secondary draw most of the attention, but the Ducks are a true national championship threat because of their massive defensive front,” Crawford wrote. “A’Mauri Washington and Bear Alexander are future draft picks at defensive tackle, while fellow seniors Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti have a chance to co-lead the Big Ten in sacks and disruptive plays. This looks like an SEC-level defensive front in terms of size, strength and athleticism, exactly what Dan Lanning envisioned when he assembled the group.”

One area where the Trojans were consistently beaten last season was up front in the trenches. Their defensive line in their losses struggled, and their offensive line did not impose its will. Vs Oregon’s imposing defensive line, they will have to be the ones to set the tone. The Trojans need a victory vs Oregon this year, and that will have to be won in the trenches this season.
