USC football will be without one of its receivers for the remainder of the 2026 season. Corey Simms will not be able to return this season, as reported by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Simms' 2026 season never really got a chance to take off. Simms had begun to make an impact for the Trojans, slowly working his way into the receiver rotation and gaining confidence while Trent Mosley was out with an injury, creating more of an opportunity for Simms to play. Simms' absence deprives USC of a bonafide weapon for Jayden Maiava, and if other receivers suffer injuries later this season, Simms' lack of availability could be a problem for the Trojans.
However, it should be said that among USC's various position groups, wide receiver is one of the deeper units. Mosley won't be back for the Washington game, but he could be back for Penn State on October 10 and should definitely be available for Wisconsin on October 24. Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, Terrell Anderson, Tanook Hines, Boobie Feaster, and other pass catchers give USC and Maiava a lot of options.
Simms made real contributions to USC, and so his loss does deprive the Trojans of a productive playmaker. However, there are other players in the wide receiver room who can fill in for Simms and ensure the passing game does not take a meaningful hit as the season goes along.
