After plenty of solid high school sports performers over the last week, here are the Journal Star Boys Athlete of the Week nominees for Sept. 14-19, presented by CEFCU.

Deshaun Anderson-Davis, Peoria High football

The junior running back put on an offensive display on Friday, Sept. 18. Anderson-Davis rushed for 267 yards and four touchdowns as Peoria High beat Champaign Centennial 60-22. Anderson-Davis scored from 10, 4, 17 and 5 yards out as he averaged 11.1 yards per carry. He added a 47-yard reception, giving him 314 yards from scrimmage in the win.

Sage Lelm, Morton football

The junior running back had a breakout game on Friday, Sept. 18. Lelm rushed seven times for 126 yards and scored four TDs as Morton beat Dunlap 43-21. He scored a trio of first-quarter TDs — two rushing, one defense. Those first 12 minutes from Lelm were highlighted by a 48-yard TD run and a strip on defense that he ran back for a score.

Bradyn Brewer, Farmington football

The junior running back dominated on the ground on Friday, Sept. 18. Brewer rushed for 194 yards and 3 TDs, while kicking two first-half extra points in beating LincolnLand-Conference-West Division rival Elmwood/Brimfield 26-14. He rushed for a 27-yard score on Farmington's second offensive play of the game. Brewer also added a third-quarter TD.

Bray Kormah, Pekin football

The junior wide receiver put together a career game on Friday, Sept. 18. Kormah hauled in 11 catches for 221 yards and three TDs as Pekin beat Washington 36-19. His TDs came from 21 and 29 yards along with an 87-yard fourth-quarter scoring strike from Matthew Stopes II. He also kicked four extra points and caught a two-point conversion pass.

Coley Palmer, Princeville football

The senior quarterback led the Princes to their first victory on Friday, Sept. 18. Palmer passed for two TDs and ran for another as Princeville picked up a 35-21 win over Bureau Valley. Palmer rushed nine times for 81 yards, while finding Edo Arnett for two TDs for a combined 34 yards. The Princes (1-4) were able to avoid their first 0-5 start in 25 years.

Crew Fortin, Illini Bluffs golf

The senior took medalist honors at the Tomahawk Conference meet on Monday, Sept. 14. He shot a two-over 74 at Coyote Creek Golf Club, winning the individual crown in a playoff. IB won the team title on a 5th-man playoff. Fortin added dual-meet wins against Tremont and Williamsfield on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and Thursday, Sept. 17, respectively.

Cole Whitaker, Morton soccer

The senior helped Morton end Dunlap's 24-match Mid-Illini Conference unbeaten streak on Tuesday, Sept. 15. His two second-half goals lifted the Potters to a 3-1 win over the hosts. With Morton trailing 1-0 at halftime, Whitaker's two tallies along with a Joe Anders score in the final 40 minutes snapped an Eagles' league win streak dating back to 2022.

Ben Gorsage, Washington cross country

The senior won the Dunlap Invitational in convincing fashion on Saturday, Sept. 19. He covered the 3-mile course at Dunlap Valley Middle School in 15 minutes, 12.3 seconds, outdistancing himself from the field by 10.4 seconds. On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Gorsage also won the Mid-Illini Pre-Conference Meet by 15.57 seconds in 16:40.15 at Alpha Park.
