Tennessee football offers former Mississippi State commit

Tennessee is recruiting toward its 2028 football signing class. The Vols offered a scholarship to four-star safety Cyion Smith.

"University of Tennessee offered," Smith announced.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect is from Blountstown High School in Blountstown, Florida. Rivals ranks him as the No. 25 safety in the class and No. 30 player in Florida.

Smith committed to Mississippi State on Oct. 8, 2025. He decommitted from the Bulldogs on May 8, 2025.

Miami was the first school to offer him a scholarship on May 6, 2024. Other Power Four schools to offer him scholarships include South Carolina, Auburn, West Virginia, Oregon, North Carolina, Florida, Cincinnati, Florida State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Louisville, Boston College, Wake Forest, Boston College and Ole Miss.

Quarterback Kaden Craft is Tennessee's only 2028 commitment.

Tennessee has 19 commitments in its 2027 football recruiting class: linebacker JP Peace, offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo, quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler, wide receiver KeSean Bowman, defensive back Carter Jamison and defensive back Brandon Leavell, tight end Malik Howard, defensive lineman Christian Mays, cornerback Dylan Haley, linebacker Kenneth Simon II, kicker Ford Fehling, long snapper Sam McKeown, offensive tackle Q’Mari Hudson, athlete Dayon Cooper, safety Marcus Jones, offensive tackle Niko Kampas, running back David Gabriel Georges and running back Asa Barnes.
