Walsh Jesuit will not play its football home opener as scheduled Friday, Aug. 28.
According to the Walsh athletics X (formerly Twitter) account, an illness in the Clark County Springfield program has forced the cancellation of the game, with the Warriors receiving a forfeit victory.
"The home opener vs. [Clark County] Springfield High School has been cancelled due to illnesses within Springfield’s program," the Walsh account posted at 8:58 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27. "They have decided to forfeit the game.
"For those who purchased tickets in advance, please note that our athletic department will be issuing refunds in the coming days."
Walsh, which defeated Highland 34-0 last week, will move to 2-0. Springfield will be 1-1 after beating Cincinnati Winton Woods 14-13 in overtime last week.
The Walsh vs. Springfield game was scheduled to be the Game of the Week on Spectrum News 1.
