The Washington Huskies hosted one of the nation’s most sought-after cornerbacks for an unofficial visit on Thursday when three-star prospect Evan Mack made his way to Montlake to take in a spring practice.

Mack, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound product of Crean Lutheran High School in Southern California, was initially scheduled to be on campus for Washington’s Junior Day festivities in early March, but had to reschedule, so getting him up to Seattle is a good sign for where secondary coach John Richardson and the Huskies stand in his recruitment.

Ranked as the nation’s No. 46 cornerback and No. 34 player in California by 247Sports, Mack holds 21 offers with Arizona State, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, USC, and Utah all among the programs in search of his pledge. He’s yet to set up any official visits, and the Huskies will certainly push hard to get him back up to Seattle over the summer thanks to his fit in defensive coordinator Ryan Walters’ scheme.

“Mack is a bouncy two-way athlete who’s also a talented basketball player,” former 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins wrote in his evaluation. “In fact, he might have been more known as a hooper before high school, but is now a big-time football prospect and could end up at corner or receiver at the next level. He has a lean, twitchy frame and is a fluid mover.”

“He can smother receivers with his length at the line of scrimmage and makes plays on the football down the field. He’s also an aggressive player and not afraid to step and make a big hit. As a receiver, he flashes strong ball skills, runs well after the catch, and wins 50-50 balls. He’s a reactionary athlete who we think is an easy national recruit who can play for any program in the country.”

The Huskies currently hold one pledge in the secondary from three-star cornerback Maurice Williams, and are hunting for a few more pledges, as Jedd Fisch’s staff has set up official visits with four-star Censere Gaylord and three-star Kamil Loud for the summer.
