Not often does Washington venture into the state of Mississippi for a high school football recruit. Sam LeJeune is one of the few exceptions.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive lineman from Poplarville, Mississippi, announced his latest offer from the Huskies this past Thursday, marking the 25th program to make a push for the four-star recruit in the 2027 class.

Last October, UW offered one of LeJeune's teammates, four-star running back Ty Keys, who has since committed to Miami. While the Huskies weren't able to make headway with Keys, making a late offer relative to where the overall process is with most recruits in the '27 cycle is significant and similar to the staff's pursuit of Tufanua Ionatana "T.I." Umu-Cais in last year's class.

Much like Umu-Cais, LeJeune is a game-wrecker along the interior defensive line for Poplarville. As a junior, the No. 105-ranked prospect and No. 10 defensive lineman, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, the Magnolia State product racked up 58 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 pass breakups, a forced fumble, and an interception, which he returned 36 yards—a singular encompassing example of why LeJeune is so coveted.

However, UW is entering the mix in mid-May with four official visits already scheduled; Auburn (May 29), California (June 5), Florida State (June 12), and LSU (June 19), which doesn't leave much wiggle room for the UW to find its own place, unless the staff can push out one of the aforementioned four schools from its current spot.

What works in the Huskies' favor is immediate playing time and the selling point of being one of the two premier conferences in college football, the Big Ten, which could unseat one or both of Cal and FSU, neither of which has had as many victories as UW has had the past two seasons.

With the Huskies also having a trio of juniors—Elinneus Davis, Darin Conley and DeSean Watts—set to be entering their final year of eligibility by the time LeJeune gets on campus and a pair of current freshmen, Derek Colman-Brusa and Umu-Cais, being one year into the program it could open the door for LeJeune to follow in their footsteps while creating a new tertiary recruiting ground in Mississippi.
