The No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes have a pivotal matchup against the No. 14 Iowa Hawkeyes. A loss could deal a major blow to Ohio State’s College Football Playoff hopes, and the Hawkeyes could put themselves firmly in the top 10 with a win.
As the guest picker on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” Iowa alum Caitlin Clark backed her alma mater to pull off the upset.
Caitlin Clark Picks Her Iowa Hawkeyes to Pull Off Major Upset of Ohio State on College GameDay
Clark is an Iowa Hawkeye legend for what she did on the court, and she loves her alma mater. To no one’s surprise, she’s going with her Hawkeyes. Ohio State has shown they are beatable after blowing a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter against Texas. Clark thinks the Hawkeyes can rattle QB Julian Sayin with their homefield advantage.
“You guys know who I’m picking. We’re going to have Julian Sayin rattled today. Stadium is going to be going crazy. Everybody better be loud. I got the Hawkeyes. Come on!” said Clark.
The Hawkeyes are coming off a massive last-second win on the road in the Big House against then No. 18 Michigan. They’ll need to carry that momentum into taking down the powerhouse Buckeyes. PFN’s CFB Playoff Meter gives the Hawkeyes just a 32.7% chance to win this game.
This game means a lot for both teams and their hopes of making the College Football Playoff. According to PFN’s CFB HQ, Ohio State-Iowa carries the largest CFP swing of any game this week. If they win, they will have a 63% chance of making the CFP, while only a 22% chance if they can’t take down Sayin and the Buckeyes.
A loss would make Ohio State’s playoff path considerably more difficult; PFN’s model gives the Buckeyes a 74% CFP chance with a win and 39% with a loss.

If Iowa wants to win this game, it’ll have to do more than just rattle Sayin. The best player on the field will be Jeremiah Smith, and he is likely the best player in all of college football. The Hawkeyes need to focus on slowing down Smith because he can dismantle any cornerback that is put in front of him.
The last time the Buckeyes visited Iowa City, the Hawkeyes walked out with the win. Clark will be hoping for the same fate for her alma mater, which will have to deliver its best performance in recent years to pull off the upset.
