OXFORD — Ole Miss football was one of a few teams to attempt to add Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson for the 2026 season.

Ole Miss offered Simpson $4 million, The Tuscaloosa News reported on Jan. 11. The report also indicated Miami offered him $6.5 million, and that Tennessee also offered $4 million.

The offers have not worked so far, as Simpson hasn’t entered the transfer portal.

Simpson started for Alabama in 2025 and declared for the 2026 NFL Draft after an impressive season. He passed for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions. He is projected as one of the top quarterbacks available, along with Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Oregon’s Dante Moore.

Simpson has not completed his NFL paperwork, according to the report.

Ole Miss needed to explore quarterback options in 2026 because star Trinidad Chambliss’ career depends on a waiver request.

Chambliss filed an appeal for an extra year of eligibility in 2026, but it was denied by the NCAA. AD Keith Carter said Ole Miss will appeal.

Chambliss’ lawyer Tom Mars said he will seek a preliminary injunction in Mississippi state court.

The Rebels have likely found their answer at quarterback in 2026 in Deuce Knight, who announced his transfer from Auburn on Jan. 11.

Knight will be a sophomore for the 2026 season. He is a former five-star recruit from Lucedale. He was a backup as a freshman in 2025 for the Tigers, but lit it up in his only start by scoring six touchdowns against Mercer.
