Notre Dame vs Wisconsin 2026
The Wisconsin-Notre Dame game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay has been six years in the making.
This game was supposed to take place in 2020 to kick off the two-game Shamrock Series between the programs in consecutive years but it was canceled due to COVID-19 during a season that was often disrupted by the pandemic.
The two teams did meet a year later as scheduled at Soldier Field as Notre Dame crushed the Badgers, 41-13.Now, the series concludes at the home of the Packers.
It will be the first college football game at Lambeau Field in 10 years. That year, Wisconsin upset No. 5 LSU, 16-14, to kick off a 10-3 season.
Can Wisconsin, which like in 2016 is unranked entering its game at Lambeau, pull off the upset again over the country's fifth-ranked team?
Wisconsin, which finished 4-8 last season, is a 20.5-point underdog against the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame will no doubt be motivated to begin the season better than last year when two losses in the first two weeks ended up costing the Fighting Irish (10-2) a spot in the College Football Playoff.
NCAA football rankings
The Badgers are not part of college football's top 25 preseason rankings, though their Week 1 opponent is. Notre Dame, coming off a 10-2 season, begins the year ranked fifth in the coaches poll.
Here are the top 10 teams heading into Week 1:
- Ohio State
- Oregon
- Georgia
- Texas
- Notre Dame
- Indiana
- Miami (Fla.)
- Texas A&M
- Oklahoma
