How many points will the Miami Hurricanes put up this week? Mario Cristobal's team gets one more midweek matchup against Wake Forest before finally playing on Saturdays again.

The U turned it up to 11 — as in, 11 touchdowns — in a 77-7 blowout last week over Florida A&M to improve to 2-0. Behind Darian Mensah, Malachi Toney and Mark Fletcher Jr., the Canes lead the nation with 702.5 yards per game. No. 2 Mississippi State is more than 80 yards behind. Miami is "only" second with 61 points per game behind Georgia.

They'll test their mettle next against Wake Forest, who improved to 2-0 after a 38-36 double-overtime win at Purdue. The Demon Deacons expect to score a few more points than Stanford and FAMU; quarterback Gio Lopez is fifth in the ACC with 575 passing yards and four touchdowns, while top receiver Carlos Hernandez ranks behind only Toney with 253 yards and a score.

Miami vs Wake Forest prediction

Before the season, I had predicted this as a slip-up loss for Miami. Getting a fresh start after last year's debacle at North Carolina, Lopez would lead a strong Wake Forest offense that would pester the Miami defense — weakened even if slightly by the loss of several major players from last year's dominating force — just enough to keep up in a weird shootout upset at home.

That was before the Deacs choked away a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to Purdue, one of the worst Power 4 teams of the past few years, and needed two overtimes to get the win. Giving up 36 points to the Boilermakers, who hadn't scored that many against a power-conference opponent since October 2024, is not the best sign coming into a showdown with Miami, who just set the ACC record with 856 yards of offense. And while the Canes defense is without its top two cornerbacks (O.J. Frederique and Xavier Lucas are out with injuries), everything else seems to be rolling just fine. Corey Hetherman's unit has yet to allow a touchdown this season; FAMU scored on a fumble return.

Prediction: Miami 48, Wake Forest 21
