Where Auburn stands with Tae Walden Jr before Wednesday's commitment

The first day of July could be another busy day for Auburn football on the recruiting trail, as two of its top uncommitted targets are slated to announce their commitment.

After examining Auburn’s likelihood of landing four-star EDGE Marquis Evans, it is time to dive into the chances of Auburn reeling in four-star athlete Tae Walden Jr. Walden will announce his commitment on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. CT on Rivals’ YouTube Channel as part of the outlet’s “Summer Signing Day.” Auburn is in the mix, alongside several SEC rivals and Oregon.

Auburn won several recruiting battles over June. However, it may strike out on landing the talented athlete from Collierville, Tennessee.

Several experts from Rivals, including national reporters Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong, predict Oregon will emerge victorious in the race for Walden on Wednesday. Neither program remaining in contention for Walden has a crystal ball prediction from 247Sports ahead of Wednesday’s decision.

Walden is an asset on the field, regardless of where he is, which is what prompted Auburn to deliver a unique pitch to Walden during a recent visit. Walden visited in May, and the Auburn coaching staff kicked around the idea of using him as both a wide receiver and a defensive back. The idea from Auburn’s coaching staff left Walden with plenty to think about.

“I don’t know what I want to do yet, so for them to be all in on me possibly playing both ways is helping them a lot,” Walden said via Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover.

Walden will announce his commitment on Wednesday, July 1, a few hours after fellow Auburn target Marquis Evans declares his pledge. Will Oregon indeed land Walden on Wednesday, or will Auburn pull off the upset?
