The Oklahoma Sooners got an important victory in Week 12, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide by two points on the road. The 23-21 upset win in Tuscaloosa is one of the biggest of the Brent Venables era, and it puts OU in good position to make the 2025 College Football Playoff. The Sooners are 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the SEC with two games left this season.
As a result of one of the biggest wins of the entire season for any team in the country, Oklahoma has gone up in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll.
Another ranking where the Sooners saw a jump was in USA TODAY Sports’ re-rank of all 136 FBS teams after Week 12’s action. Paul Myerberg compiles the list each week, and he has OU as his No. 8 team in the country after taking down the Tide.
It’s a three-spot jump for the Sooners, and it puts them at fourth in the SEC behind Texas A&M, Georgia and Ole Miss. Myerberg has a total of nine SEC schools in his top 25, including Alabama, Vanderbilt, Texas, Tennessee and Missouri. That’s over half of the 16-team conference within the top 25 teams out of 136 programs.
After the big win over Bama, the Sooners won’t get any rest, as they’ll welcome the Missouri Tigers to Norman on Saturday. The Sooners are 67-25-5 all-time against the Tigers, but Mizzou won last year in Columbia by a score of 30-23. However, the last time OU played host, they were victorious 38-28 in 2011. Over the last ten matchups between the former Big 12 Conference opponents, the Sooners are 8-2.
