Where does Alex Golesh rank in On3's SEC coach rankings?

Auburn football has been looking for the right leader of the program since the Gus Malzahn era ended after the 2020 season. That is the last season the Tigers have posted a winning season in college football. After Malzahn, Auburn has seen two head coaches fail in Bryan Harsin and Hugh Freeze. The hope is that new head coach Alex Golesh will change the fortunes of the program.

As the calendar has now hit June, it is time for list season in college football. Chris Low of On3 recently released his rankings for all 16 coaches in the SEC. Golesh does not rank high on the list of coaches and comes in at No. 13. He is just above Jeff Lebby (Mississippi State), Ryan Silverfield (Arkansas), and Will Stein (Kentucky). Both Silverfield and Stein are both entering their first year in their programs, like Golesh.

At South Florida, Golesh posted a 23-15 record and led the Bulls to nine wins in 2025. The rebuild he did in Tampa was impressive, but he does have a lot to prove. He brings in 13 players from South Florida, and some talented players left over from last season’s Auburn team. He has proven, though, that he can bring in talent by way of high school recruiting. The Tigers' 2027 class is currently ranked No. 14 according to 247Sports and has 18 verbal commitments.

At the top of the On3 list are expected to be Kirby Smart (Georgia) and Steve Sarkisian (Texas). New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin comes in ranked at No. 3, and Florida’s Jon Sumrall is at No. 10. Both are coaches that Auburn had targeted in previous searches when Harsin and Freeze were fired. Golesh has the chance to move up the list with a successful first season at Auburn.
