The preseason accolades and lists continue for Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown. USA Today's Blake Toppmeyer views Brown as one the better quarterbacks in his latest SEC quarterback rankings.

Brown comes in at No. 7 behind the likes of Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), Gunner Stockton (Georgia), Arch Manning (Texas), Marcel Reed (Texas A&M), Sam Leavitt (LSU), and John Mateer (Oklahoma). Chambliss taking the top spot is not a surprise, but Stockton over Manning could be seen as an upset by many.

While Brown did put up big numbers over the past three season at South Florida, he still has a lot to prove now being an SEC quarterback. In 2025, he was the only quarterback in FBS to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards. That will be tougher against SEC competition. He success against Florida last season has been well documented, but he will be facing top defenses each week.

Toppmeyer mentions in the rankings that Alex Golesh is looking to solve the quarterback woes Auburn has had and that Brown is a quick fix for 2026. Payton Thorne and Jackson Arnold did not pan out the way the previous coaching staff has hoped, and Auburn was also one of the many schools to give T.J. Finley an opportunity. The position has been disappointing since Bo Nix left the Tigers to head west to Oregon after the 2021 season.

Brown does have the talent around him to move upward in any quarterback rankings, and be one of the best in the SEC.
