Despite an apparent lower-body injury, quarterback Sam Leavitt played well for LSU in its Week 4 win over Texas A&M on Saturday. The win marks the first SEC victory of 2026 and the first of Leavitt's LSU career.
Leavitt threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 74% of his passes and added five carries for 22 yards. The injury forced him to progress through his reads in the pocket and led to an exceptional performance. He connected with four receivers, two of whom finished with over 100 receiving yards.
In ESPN's adjusted total quarterback rating (QBR), Leavitt jumped up to No. 31 nationally with a 79.6 rating, almost four whole points better than last week. Five SEC quarterbacks rank ahead of him: Georgia's Gunner Stockton (90.6), Alabama's Keelon Russell (89), Mississippi State's Kamario Taylor (87.1), Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss (85.6) and Florida's Aaron Philo (85.4).
Leavitt's health will continue to be a storyline as LSU prepares to play McNeese on Saturday then hits the rest of the conference slate. But the Tigers' passer appeared confident in his delivery despite being in pain.
