Many elite women's volleyball programs are getting their seasons started at mini-tournaments across the country, including Wisconsin and Stanford, who will meet at the Opening Spike Classic this weekend.
The Badgers are heading into this season hungry, especially after ending their 2025 campaign with a devastating five-set loss to Kentucky in the Final Four. UW graduated talents like Mimi Colyer and Carter Booth in the offseason, but setter Charlie Fuerbringer is holding it down for the squad, and some new young talent should also help the cause.
As part of the ACC, Stanford will co-host this tournament alongside Pitt. The Cardinal will have motivation for vengeance, as Wisconsin ended their season with a 3-1 victory in the Sweet 16 last year. While star outside hitter Elia Rubin has graduated from the program, players like Lizzy Andrew, Julia Blyashov and Jordyn Harvey will strengthen the attack.
