Who has Missouri football offered, expressed interest in portal?

If you can avoid it, we’d advise not blinking.

The portal action is moving, and moving fast.

Missouri football’s transfer portal targets are rapidly taking shape. As was expected, wide receivers, defensive backs and offensive line have emerged as the early priorities for Mizzou, with a wide range of offers and visits either reported or confirmed on Saturday, Jan. 3.

The portal opened Jan. 2 and will remain open for new entries through Jan. 16. In the next few weeks, Mizzou will likely sign somewhere between 15-25 players.

So, who are the early flurry of names to keep an eye on, among the more-than 4,500 Division-I players already in the portal?

This is going to be a non-quarterback edition, because we have a good idea of where Missouri has turned its focus. Barring a surprise, Ole Miss transfer QB Austin Simmons is almost certainly going to be a Missouri Tiger by the end of the month.

Here are players who have either set up visits or Missouri has expressed interest in:

Andrew Sprague, Michigan, right tackle

Missouri needs a right tackle because All-American Keagen Trost is out of eligibility and likely to be NFL-bound. Missouri now really needs a good right tackle, because that player — if the reports are true about the left-handed Simmons — will be protecting the likely next Mizzou QB’s blindside.

Enter: Sprague, who is from Kansas City and is a Rockhurst High grad.

Sprague, who has reportedly entered the transfer portal with a no-contact tag, started every game for Michigan in 2025 and only allowed one sack in 360 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus. He was a redshirt freshman last season and has three remaining years of eligibility, which is another positive.

The no-contact tag is interesting. It seems like Missouri and Texas, based on reports we’ve seen, are the likeliest options for the All-Big Ten honorable mention tackle.

This should be a top target for Mizzou.

Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood (19) celebrates a touchdown against Central Michigan with offensive lineman Andrew Sprague (54) during the second half at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025.

Dalesean Staley, San Diego State, safety

Staley also is a Kansas City native, graduating from Blue Springs High. This looks like a two-team race early.

Staley has reposted a report from JGPVisuals on X that he is visiting Nebraska on Saturday, Jan. 3 and then Mizzou on Jan. 6-7. He has posted official offers from both schools.

Missouri will hope that Staley makes it off the Lincoln campus. Working against the Tigers: Nebraska just announced San Diego State defensive coordinator Rob Aurich as its new defensive playcaller.

If Missouri can land Staley, the Tigers are getting a player who posted 80 total tackles, 10 pass breakups and an interception on a strong Aztecs defense.

In other defensive back news: Notre Dame true freshman safety JaDon Blair, who is listed at 6-5, announced Saturday that he has received an offer from Mizzou.

At corner, PowerMizzou and 247Sports reported Saturday that Oregon transfer cornerback Jahlil Florence, who played frequently for the Ducks in 2022-23 but had injury issues beginning in 2024, will visit Mizzou, Texas A&M and Arizona State.

Wide receivers get Mizzou interest

With five of the six wide receivers Mizzou used most in 2025 moving on, this was always going to be a position of need. Missouri is acting accordingly, and already is in the mix for several portal pass-catchers. Here’s a few we’ve seen:

  • Chase Hendricks, Ohio: Hendricks graduated from St. Mary’s in St. Louis, the same school as Mizzou standouts Kevin Coleman Jr. and Jamal Roberts. He caught 71 passes for 1,037 yards and seven touchdowns for Ohio last season. Hendricks is followed by Mizzou’s director of scouting Jared Russell and several MU assistants. He has more than a dozen Power-conference offers.
  • Wyatt Young, North Texas: He was followed by MU wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler on social media back in December. Oklahoma State, where ex-UNT HC Eric Morris now coaches, will be the favorite. But, if Mizzou can make this happen, that’s a major addition after a 70-catch, 1,264-yard, 10-touchdown year from Young.
  • Xavier Townsend, Iowa State: Another receiver Peeler followed on social media early on, and Chris Hummer at 247Sports has reported that the former UCF transfer will visit Mizzou, Purdue, Notre Dame and Florida State. He caught 18 passes for 243 yards in Ames last season.
  • Larenzo Fenner, South Dakota: Is followed on social media by all the names you need to know among Mizzou’s recruiting crew. The Independence, Missouri, native caught 15 touchdown passes and recorded 1,001 receiving yards last season at the FCS level.
  • Chris Culliver, North Carolina: Maybe a speed option to replace Marquis Johnson? Culliver has been productive in the return game and averaged 23 yards per catch for UNC, but only has 12 catches in three seasons.

Derek Joiner, Houston, offensive guard

A third straight Kansas City native on this list, Joiner is a Grandview grad and has spent that past two seasons with the Cougars. He posted to X/Twitter that he has received an offer from Mizzou.

He is likely to be a guard at 6-3, 305. He has only taken special teams snaps with UH, so would likely come in to provide depth in the room rather than immediately start.

Mizzou looks at South Dakota punter

Missouri absolutely needs a punter in this window, and South Dakota’s Tyler Ebel appears to be on the Tigers’ radar. His agency, The Business of Athletes, posted on social media that he will visit both Vanderbilt and Mizzou.

Ebel is a 6-4 Wisconsin native who averaged 45.8 yards per boot last season. He has a 66-yard career long and has put more than 40% of his career punts inside the 20-yard line. PFF graded him as the seventh-best punter among all FBS and FCS punters in 2025.
