Just one game into the high school season in Nebraska and three days before the season-opener for the Huskers, Matt Rhule and Co. have a decommit.

Tay Ellis, a three-star wide receiver, has decommitted from Nebraska. He committed to the Big Red last fall while still at Crowley High School in Texas.

In his only high school game so far in Nebraska, Ellis had three catches for 97 yards and a touchdown in Millard South's 35-34 win over rival Millard North. He moved to Nebraska for his senior season, following five-star quarterback Trae Taylor

Stats on MaxPreps have Ellis with more than 2,000 receiving yards in his career. As a freshman, he made 36 receptions for 708 yards and seven touchdowns (11 games). He upped those numbers to 55 receptions for 794 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore (13 games). In 2025 (11 games), he notched 65 receptions for 808 yards and nine touchdowns.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Ellis is the No. 91-rated receiver in the nation. He's the No. 6-rated prospect in Nebraska.

Nebraska's 2027 Class

The 2027 class for the Huskers is still strong, despite the loss of Ellis. Nebraska currently sits at 21 commits.

NU sits at No. 16 in the nation from the 247Sports Composite.

At the wideout position, four-star Khalil Taylor and three-star Justyn Lindsay are still set to join the Huskers.

Leading the class is five-star quarterback Trae Taylor.
