Wisconsin football is heading into one of its toughest stretches, as it faces the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the season opener. To strengthen their front office, the Badgers have hired Marcus Berry for a high-ranking player-personnel role.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported the news on X, formerly Twitter, and wrote, “Wisconsin has hired veteran college front office staffer Marcus Berry in a high-ranking player personnel role, a source tells @CBSSports. Was most recently chief of staff/GM at Temple. Previously worked at Michigan State and as director of recruiting at Maryland.”
Joining the Badgers with veteran front-office experience, Berry was the director of recruiting for six years at Maryland. He also worked at Michigan State.

“Marcus Berry joined the Badgers’ staff as Senior Director of Personnel Strategy in August of 2026. Berry arrived in Madison with more than 25 years of experience building development-driven rosters at the Power Five and NFL levels,” his bio reads on the Wisconsin website.
“Most recently, Berry served as the Chief of Staff/GM of Player Personnel at Temple University, overseeing the entire coaching staff while managing roster construction, NCAA and Title IX compliance, and all recruiting operations.”
Wisconsin will benefit from Berry’s long resume of experiences. Apart from Michigan State and Maryland, he has played crucial roles for Rutgers and Illinois as the director of player personnel at both places.
The recruitment comes at a time when the Badgers are coming off a tough 4-8 (2-7 in the Big Ten) season and have experienced extensive roster turnover. And Luke Fickell will need Berry’s player-personnel experience more than anything else to rebuild a competitive roster.
With an experienced hire in the front office, Wisconsin will play Notre Dame in Week 1 on September 6.
